Do you have an upcoming hearing with the Social Benefits Tribunal, but worry that access to your hearing will be next to impossible because of technology-related problems like no phone minutes or data, or because of medical/disability-related limitations, or language barriers?
Check out our new tip-sheet for step-by-step information on how you can request a different format in order to support access to your hearing. The tip-sheet is posted here (PDF) and it can be found in our Publications section.
Please note that the information provided is designed to answer common questions and is not legal advice. If you still need help changing the format of your hearing, reach out to your local community legal clinic as soon as you can.
While moving the majority of Social Benefits Tribunal services online has helped with access for some people, it has created barriers for others. Tribunals Ontario’s “Digital First” approach should not mean Digital Only. Addressing and removing barriers to access to justice for social assistance recipients and people living on low income is an important part of ISAC’s work.
