ISAC’s Annual Report for 2013-2014

December 17, 2014

The past year has been particularly busy here at ISAC, as we’ve moved to expand our focus beyond social assistance.

In each of our areas of work – litigation, policy advocacy, and community organizing – we’ve taken on both new challenges and old, working in partnership with other community legal clinics as well as advocacy organizations, community agencies and research institutes that share our goals.

Our Annual Report for 2013-2014 details our work on issues that include:

  • Securing a court decision to ensure that people receiving social assistance benefits can ask for overpayments to be waived in unfair circumstances where it would cause hardship.
  • Generating a national debate over federal government legislation to allow provinces to restrict refugee claimant access to social assistance benefits.
  • Helping more than 100 temporary agricultural workers win a court battle to secure Employment Insurance parental benefits.

Read about these and many more aspects of our work this year, including our public legal education and media outreach, our key partnerships, and our co-location project with other specialty legal clinics.

We hope you’ll enjoy learning more about us and the work we do to improve income security in Ontario.
