The Canada Disability Benefit (CDB) is currently in the process of being created. The Canada Disability Benefit Act passed into law in June 2023, and since then, government staff have engaged with people across Canada in a variety of ways to solicit ideas and information on all of the important elements of a benefit whose intention is to end poverty for people with disabilities who live on low incomes.
Part of the government’s outreach and engagement process included holding several technical roundtables during the end of 2023. ISAC staff were invited to and attended three technical roundtables: Understanding Barriers in Application Processes; Appointing Representatives and Legal Capacity; and Administrative Processes.
We compiled the submissions we provided at each roundtable into a summary document, which you can download and read by clicking here. You can also scroll through the embedded PDF file below. French translation of these submissions is forthcoming.
ISAC is grateful for the opportunity to provide our expertise to the federal government in order to ensure that the Canada Disability Benefit Act regulations eliminate barriers, create accessible administrative law processes, and centre the lived experience of benefit recipients.
